More: President Barack Obama did not attend the 20-year anniversary celebration. Instead he sent a video. BBC has it.

Update: Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s remarks at the Brandenburg Gate. Some selective history telling here, like declining to acknowledge former President Ronald Reagan, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, or Poland’s military and state leader, General Wojciech Jaruzelski for example, although President Obama was acknowledged as “someone who represents the fall of different kinds of walls.”
