Mother of First Navy SEAL Killed in Iraq Speaks Out About President Obama
Last September I had the great pleasure and privilege to meet Debbie Lee at Walter Reed Medical Center while covering a mission to provide laptops for wounded warriors. Debbie Lee’s son, Marc Alan Lee, was the first U.S. Navy SEAL killed in Iraq on August 2, 2006. Since then, she’s dedicated her life to helping troops and their families. She’s also gone to Iraq to support the troops and to personally see where her son spent his last moments before his passing. In an interview with the Huntsville Conservative Examiner, she speaks out.

He offered his life along with those who served so that we can live ours with freedoms we enjoy today. ‘We will never forget your mission, Marc Alan Lee.’
Americas Mighty Warriors is a charitable organization managed by Debbie Lee. Her mission in life is to honor, thank, support, and encourage our troops and their families and to remember the sacrifice of her son, Marc Alan Lee, the first U.S. Navy SEAL killed in Iraq.
Debbie Lee accepts the challenge from Marc’s last letter home to ‘pass on the kindness, the love and the precious gift of human life through random acts of kindness’ that will impact and honor our military, the fallen and their families for their selfless service and sacrifice.
AP Public Photo File FootageMarc Alan Lee, was the first U.S. Navy SEAL killed in Iraq on August 2, 2006. He stood in the direct line of fire three times that day. He chose to use his ‘today’ to defend his buddies, to defend us and to protect this nation from the terrorists who want to destroy America and everything we represent.
He could have fallen to his knees and helped his wounded teammates. He could have stayed below the protective cover provided by the cement wall on a rooftop. He could have been home today with his family and the outcome would have been different for his buddies and their families. But Marc was a young man who valued others lives more important than his own. He recognized the urgency of what he had to do with his last ‘today.’ He did that for you and for me.
Capital Partners Limited, LLP Photo FileTo date, 1311 U.S. and Allied Forces have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq since Barack Obama was inaugurated the President of the Unites States.
The fatalities have been the greatest in a single day on this Presidents watch and are expected to get dramatically worse. Last August was the deadliest month on record while Obama’s battle plans seem to be to blame someone else, turn over the responsibilities for everything from the ‘War on Terror’ to Jobs Creation through the Gulf oil situation and to skip town on another jaunt aboard Air Force One, our U.S. Presidential aircraft.
In an interview by Hank Richards from the Examiner, Debbie Lee suggested that her feelings were wrapped around the public letter she wrote about Memorial Day, 2010.
AmericasMightyWarriors.org‘Memorial Day 2010 is about the reason that we as a nation have set aside this holiday. The majority of Americans including our President are focused on fun and families.’
Says Debbie, ‘Unfortunately like the majority of Americans, I wasn’t taught the true meaning of Memorial Day.
What I did learn was that it’s a time when we as a nation remember America’s Mighty Warriors who sacrificed their lives in combat fighting for our freedoms. As a Mother of one of those Warriors who willingly gave his life in battle for our freedoms, every day for me is Memorial Day. If you lost a son, daughter, spouse or any family member you too understand. We remember their smiles, their looks and their voices. We remember how they lived out loud and how they sacrificed everything. They gave their tomorrows so that we could have ours today.’
Debbie continued, ‘my heart was deeply pierced as I learned that President Obama decided to take a family vacation back to Chicago and will not be laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery to honor and remember our fallen heroes. What a dishonor to our heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice and to their families.’
